About
While loving drawing and doodling my whole life, I became interested in animation through my Uncle Ron Zorman (currently an employee of Pixar). I started using ‘Adobe Flash’ in highschool, and over a few years I developed a few short animations and games. With a few other online animators, I helped create a few short ‘Collaberations’ on newgrounds under the account “Pillowbasher”.
During grade 11, while taking a media course at Heritage Woods Secondary (using the 3D program ‘Animation Master’), I recieved a recomendation from my teacher Mike Schoenhals to apply for the S.W.E.A.T. program at ‘The Art Institute of Vancouver’. This is when I was first introduced to ‘Maya’. I loved it.
Currently I am attending BCIT taking the digital animation course. I’m coming to the end of my last term while working on my demo reel. I plan on finding a job in the animation business when I finish school in October. Eventually I hope to work at Pixar alongside my Uncle helping create some of the best 3D animated movies of all time.

Hey Nick- thanks so much I’ve just watched your render passes tutorial-which really cleared up a few things for me. However I am still unsure despite trawling the internet for the perfect tutorial, as to whether or not what I want to do is possible. I would be so grateful if you could help me-in a bit of a tight time spot!-arn’t we always?!:
I have about 8 different lights in my scene, the key light is being used to project shadows of an animated paint fx tree onto the floor and walls in my set-all other lights are also used at some point to project shadows (animated) onto this set. I would really like to be able to render out the effects of each light separately, and the set separately-then composite them all together -manipulating each lights effects and its shadows independantly-I’m sure one of my classmates at uni -(6 years ago!!) did something very similar to this-but he is not on facebook/ google-is this possible- could you please give me any pointers or even a known location of appropriate tutorials?
P.s. I can use either Maya renderer or Turtle, and working on Maya 7, windows.
Really appreciate any help,
many many thanks,
Henry
