Demo Reel

Below is my completed demo reel, you may view a HD version on youtube :

THE BOX

Vernon was inspired by a bus driver that I noticed had a particularly sad expression.  I started thinking, why is he sad?  This is when the character was born.

The story that is presented here, is different from my original concept, but I think this suits the demo reel better.  Vernon is married to his wife Petunia (the old woman yelling at him).  All day he works and then he comes home to get nagged at by his wife.  Originally I had them with a couple kids that made his life harder, however I thought they were too old for kids, and Petunia looked like a cat lady.

Biance Le Roux came up with the idea for a box.  The box was the first thing that was modeled, and I used it a few times in my school assignments.  The box was given a VERY simple rig, and a simple texture of a box.

The reason for Vernon’s ensemble is basically because this is what I saw the bus driver wearing.  The typical blue vest with a lighter blue collared shirt underneath.

The photographer character is Blake from HighEnd3D.com.  He is a fantastic rig with adjustable hair/shirt/pant/shoe etc color, facial hair, type of shirt etc.  Quite customizable for a free rig.  And I thought the voice of Mike Myers in Austin powers suited him PERFECTLY.

Petunia was only added in when I was finalizing my reel.  My lovely girlfriend Biance was the voice for Petunia, however she was not the model :D .

Main Story Behind “THE BOX”
Hopefully it’s somewhat clear in the reel, however the point of a demo reel is not to tell a story, it is to show off your skills.

Vernon has been sent upstairs to clean the attic, but as he comes up the stairs he sees an unfamiliar box lit up by sun rays.  The box releases some of Vernon’s wishes/dreams/hopes.  But of course, no magical box like this could be real, and he awakes from his wife’s yelling, on a lounge chair in the attic.  However, all the items (including the lounge chair) are from his ‘dream’.  He even appears on the cover of a photography magazine.  So who knows?

Please tell me what you think.
Below I’ve put a list of all the resources I used.

Characters:
The older character (Vernon) was completely made by me. The modeling, rigging, and animating.
The photographer is called Blake, and he’s from HighEnd3D.com (Excellent Rig)

Audio:
Main Background Music, Funky Miracle – the Meters
Photoshoot Scene Audio, Austin Powers – The Spy Who Shagged Me
All other audio is self made, or from Garage Band
Audio was composited by Biance Le Roux

Please let me know what you think. I really enjoyed working on this.
